WE CAN COOK GINGERBREAD MEN!!

WE CAN COOK GINGERBREAD MEN!!

During November and December we have been working with the story of the Gingerbread Man. WE LOVE IT!
Liz had a great idea: "why don't we cook our own Gingerbread Men?" First, we were a bit scared... "and what if they jump out of the oven and run away?" But we decided to take the risk!! :P
We had a lot of fun making the recipe and here you have some pictures that show it... clic on the link below to check them out!

Durante noviembre y diciembre hemos estado trabajando la historia de Gingerbread Man y ¡NOS ENCANTA!
Liz tuvo una idea genial: ¡Cocinar nuestro propio Gingerbread Man!

Recipe for Gingerbread Men

Ingredients – makes approx. 12

·      300g flour, plus extra for rolling out
·      1 teaspoon (small spoon) bicarbonate of soda
·      1 teaspoon ground ginger
·      1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
·      100g butter
·      150g soft bown sugar
·      1 egg
·      3 tablespoons (big spoon) syrup or liquid sugar
To decorate
·      Smarties (Lacasitos)
·      Currants

Preparation method

1.    Mix together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon and pour into a bowl.  Add the butter and mix with your finhers until it looks like breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar.
2.    Lightly beat the egg and syrup together, add to the breadcrumb mixture until the mixture clumps together in a ball. Tip the dough out, knead briefly until smooth.
3.    Preheat the oven to 170C. Line two baking trays with greaseproof paper.
4.    Roll the dough out to a 0.5cm thickness on a lightly floured surface. Using a cutter, cut out the gingerbread men shapes and place on the baking tray, leaving a gap between them. Stick on the Smarties for eyes.
5.    Bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly golden-brown. Leave on the tray for 10 minutes and then move to a wire rack to finish cooling. When cooled decorate with currants for the buttons.
6.    If you want you can draw on a smile using writing icing.
